We are looking for a Vice President of Engineering who is driven by curiosity, thrives in dynamic environments, and embraces uncertainty. This leader will oversee both engineering and cryptography teams, ensuring alignment between groundbreaking research and practical, performant implementation.
Role Overview
The VP of Engineering will lead our technical organization, bridging advanced cryptography research with engineering execution. This role requires agility, adaptability, and resilience—the ability to adjust strategy and execution as the Bitcoin ecosystem and cryptographic research landscape evolve. The VP will build a high-performance engineering culture, ensuring our company’s technical direction contributes meaningfully to the evolution of Bitcoin.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Vision
- Understand and communicate the long-term technical strategy in partnership with executive leadership.
- Inspire a culture of innovation, rigor, adaptability, and curiosity across engineering and cryptography teams.
- Serve as a thought partner to leadership on company direction.
- Team Management
- Directly manage team leads of cryptography and engineering groups, mentoring them to grow as leaders. Build relationships with individual contributors, mentoring them as well.
- Build, scale, and retain a world-class technical team passionate about Bitcoin and cryptography.
- Promote strong cross-team collaboration between research and productization efforts.
- Execution & Delivery
- Support the translation of cryptography research into secure, performant, and production-ready systems.
- Oversee technical project planning, prioritization, and execution to ensure milestones are met.
- Establish processes and frameworks that balance research freedom with disciplined engineering output.
- Rapidly adapt priorities and approaches in response to new findings, challenges, or external developments.
- Technical Oversight
- Drive processes that ensure our cryptographic schemes and engineering systems uphold the highest standards of security and performance.
- Review and drive the implementation of key architectural decisions, anticipating challenges and risks.
- Stay current on Bitcoin ecosystem developments and adjacent fields in cryptography.
